The history of photography and how it has evolved over time.
Photography is the process of creating images using light. The word “photography” comes from the Greek words for “light” and “drawing.”
Photography has been around since the early 1800s. Early cameras were very large and bulky, and they used plates of glass coated with chemicals to capture images. In 1839, French artist Louis Daguerre invented a process called daguerreotypy, which was the first commercial form of photography.
In 1851, Englishman Frederick Scott Archer developed a process called collodion photography, which replaced the need for glass plates with paper or fabric soaked in chemicals. This made cameras much lighter and easier to carry around.
In 1888, George Eastman invented roll film, which made it possible to take multiple pictures without having to reload the camera each time. Eastman also founded the Kodak company, which sold pre-loaded roll film cameras to amateur photographers.
In 1900, Hollywood filmmaker George Melies used a motion picture camera to invent special effects photography. He is credited with creating the first movie fake banknote$1 bill done on film ( 1890s).
His other effects included dissolves (fading in and out), double exposures (superimposing one image over another), stop-action (freezing subjects in mid-motion), time-lapse photography (showing subjects at a faster or slower pace than they actually moved), and hand-painted film frames.
Today, digital cameras have replaced traditional film cameras, and photography has become more accessible than ever before. Anyone with a smartphone can now take high-quality photos and share them with the world instantly. There are many different types of photography, including portrait photography, landscape photography, still life photography, street photography, wedding photography, sports photography, and photojournalism.
